Florence's
museums,
palaces,
and churches
house
some of
the greatest
artistic
treasures
in the
world.
The most
popular
and important
sites
in Florence
include
the Cathedral,
the Baptistery,
the Accademia,
the Bargello,
and the
Uffizi.
The Uffizi
Gallery
is one
of the
world's
top art
museums
- it houses
some of
the most
important
works
of the
Renaissance,
including
works
by Leonardo
da Vinci,
Giotto,
Botticelli
and Michelangelo. Lots of
sculptures
too.
The
churches
of Santa
Maria
Novella
and Santa
Croce
are veritable
art galleries,
and the
library
of San
Lorenzo
is a magnificent
exhibition
of Michelangelo's
architectural
genius.
Wander
some of
the oldest
streets
in the
city until
you reach
the Arno
River,
cross
the Ponte
Vecchio (no visit
to Florence
is complete
without
at least
some time
spent
dawdling
on the
Ponte
Vecchio,
looking
at the
glittering
jeweler’s
shops
along
the bridge
or admiring
the view),
and xperience
the "newest"
area of
Florence,
the Oltrarno.
Be sure
to set
aside
time to
see the
vast and
varied
art collection
housed
in the
Pitti
Palace.
When you
grow weary
of museums
and monuments,
head outdoors.
Spend
a day
at the Boboli
Gardens or climb
the hill
to the
church
of San
Miniato
al Monte
to experience
an enchanting
view of
Florence. |
|
|
|
 |
| Montalcino |
 |
 |
 |
| In
addition
to
its
sleepy
medieval
streets
and
sun-soaked
vineyards,
Montalcino
presents
other
sights
such
as
the
Piazza
del
Popolo
(People's
Square)
and
the
Palazzo
dei
Priori
(old
Town
Hall),
as
well
as
the
medieval
churches
of
San
Fracesco,
San
Egidio
and
San
Agostino. |
 |
|
|
|
 |
| Montepulciano |
 |
 |
 |
| Montepulciano
is a dignified
and interesting
hilltop
town commanding
the southeast
part of
Tuscany
near the
Umbrian
border.
It is
particularly
well preserved
and has
many handsome
16C palaces,
including
some by
Antonio
da Sangallo
il Vecchio
who also
built
the Tempio
di San
Biagio
here. |
 |
|
|
 |
| Sant'Antimo |
 |
 |
 |
| The
Abbey
of Sant'Antimo
(Abbazia
di Sant'Antimo)
is a beautiful
Romanesque
church,
in a picture-perfect
setting
just south
of Montalcino
in southern
Tuscany.
It sits
in a large
valley
with views
of the
hill town
Castelnuovo
dell'Abate,
rolling
hills
covered
in olive
groves
and vineyards,
and wild
forests. |
 |
|
|
|
 |
| San
Galgano |
 |
 |
 |
The
Cistercian
Abbey
of
San
Galgano
is
an
icon
unto
itself,
the
foremost
symbol
of
this
land.
It
is
historically
and
architecturally
one
of
the
most
important
religious
monuments
in
the
Sienese
countryside.
|
 |
|
|
|
 |
| San
Quirico
d'Orcia |
 |
 |
 |
| In
its town
centre,
encircled
by fortified
walls,
a stop
should
be made
at the
Collegiata
dei Santi
Quirico
e Giulitta
with its
magnificent
Romanesque-Gothic
doorways
as well
as at
the Misericordia
and Santa
Maria
di Vitaleta
churches,
at the
Palazzo
Pretorio
(town
hall)
and at
Palazzo
Chigi. |
 |
|
|
 |
| Terme
di Rapolano |
 |
 |
 |
| It
is a popular
thermal
station
with hot
sulphureous
waters,
which
partially
preserves
the medieval
townwalls.
In the
neighbourhood
we suggest
to visit
Armaiolo,
a picturesque
medieval
village
and Serre
di Rapolano
with the
Palazzo
di Giustizia,
restored
in Gothic
style,
and with
the ruins
of a mighty
fortress. |

|
Etruscan
city, famous
for the works
by Piero della
Francesca, the
hystorical commemoration
of the “Giostra
del Saracino”
and the Antiques

is taken every
month. |

|

|
Know
for the “Palio
of Siena”,
it is one of
the most beautiful
cities in Italy.
Situated in
the centre of
Italy through
the Chianti
Hills and the
Maremma, Siena
is a city rich
in history,
art and culture. |
|
|
| |
|
Perugia
is a capital
city in a medieval
hill town's
clothing, a
town of Gothic
palaces and
jazz cafes,
where ancient
alleys of stone
drop precipitously
off a 19th-century
shopping promenade. |
|
|
|
 |
| Anghiari |
 |
 |
 |
| Surrounded
by castles and
country churches
Anghiari looks
out over the
beautiful High
Tiber Valley
landscape, a
natural amphitheatre
filled with
the spirituality
of St. Francis
of Assisi. |
 |
|
 |
| Cortona |
 |
 |
 |
| Its
magnificent
views extend
over the green
plains and hills
of Tuscany and
Umbria, extending
beyond the lovely
Lake Trasimeno.
Cortona is a
pleasant day-trip
destination
for tourists
exploring Tuscany. |
